Last weekend (Saturday 15 October) The Guardian gave away a free booklet: How to write fiction: A Guardian masterclass with the print edition of the newspaper. For those who missed it, or live outside the UK, you can get the whole thing as a Kindle ebook for a few dollars. Not all the articles were put up on the Guardian site right away. Rather they’ve dribbed and drabbed online, and they don’t yet seem to be collected behind a single contents page. So if you want a taste of what you’ve missed I’ve compiled the articles (but not the exercises) below:.
Introduction The write way Geoff Dyer
Getting started New writers … dive in Jill Dawson
Character A kind of organised dreaming Andrew Miller
Point of view In two minds Rachel Cusk
Voice Who are you really? Meg Rosoff
Dialogue When all is said and done DBC Pierre

Plot Rising action Kate Mosse
Plot The dark art of creating suspense Mark Billingham
Revising & rewriting Cut, then cut again MJ Hyland
